Aboriginal Traditional Knowledge

In 2003 the NWMO began a process of learning from Aboriginal Elders about Traditional Knowledge. Since that time we have sat and talked with Elders and listened and learned a great deal. We have deepened our appreciation and understanding of the special relationship that Aboriginal peoples have with Mother Earth.

We have benefited from the wisdom of Elders in communities and through the members of the NWMO Elders Forum and Niigani. We have continued to conduct workshops and projects and regularly provide training sessions within the NWMO through the assistance of Niigani.

Aboriginal and western worldviews and knowledge systems are each unique however the interweaving of these two worldviews in the implementation of Adaptive Phased Management can bring opportunities to strengthen this work as we learn from one another.
