Evaluation of Management Approaches

This phase of NWMO’s work will focus on the evaluation of specific long-term management approaches for nuclear fuel waste.  Two significant reports will be published. 

The analytical framework presented in Discussion Document 1 will be refined based on the dialogue that results from its release.  Along with research findings, the framework will then be applied to the proposed management approaches.  This assessment of the management approaches will be presented in NWMO’s Discussion Document 2, expected mid-year, 2004.  Once again, an intensive period of dialogue and discussion will follow release of the report to ensure that NWMO has fully considered and addressed societal expectations.

In preparation for release of its Draft Study Report, NWMO work will be focus on articulating the implementation plans, refining the assessment, and preparing recommendations.  The Draft Study Report will include the Nuclear Waste Management Organization’s recommendations which will be offered for public review and comment before the Final Study Report is prepared for submission to the Government of Canada.
