NWMO Community Investment Program
|
The NWMO Community Investment Program is being redesigned for 2011. Thus, we are not currently accepting applications for Funding.
Below, please find the approach and contributions for 2009 and 2010.
|
The objective for the NWMO’s community-based investment program is to support community initiatives that help build capacity for more active, engaged and informed youth in our communities. The program is intended to foster opportunities for youth to participate in civic life and support them to make a positive difference by becoming involved in activities or issues that help make meaningful contributions to their community.
This objective is anchored in the NWMO’s interest in the principles and practices that encourage dialogue, collaboration and active/engaged citizenship, which are reflected in the NWMO’s ongoing public engagement activities as well as its commitment to implement its work only within a willing and informed host community.

In 2009 and 2010, the NWMO provided funding to 15 projects. The community initiatives were administered in partnership with the Community Foundations of Canada and were geographically focused in the four provinces associated with the nuclear fuel cycle, namely Ontario, New Brunswick, Quebec and Saskatchewan. For a list of projects that received funding from the NWMO, please click here.

In addition to the community-based projects described above, the NWMO has provided funding to Aboriginal organizations and communities seeking funding for initiatives that reflect our grant guidelines.
