Review of the Proposed Process to Select a Site - Public Information Sessions
In 2008, The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) initiated a dialogue with interested organizations and individuals on important principles and elements for a fair process to identify an informed and willing community to host a deep geological repository for the safe containment and isolation of Canada’s used nuclear fuel for the long term. Guided by this input, we have developed a discussion document outlining a Proposed Process for Selecting a Site.
Through May and June of this year, NWMO conducted regional information sessions in three of the four provinces involved in the nuclear fuel cycle: Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick. Sessions are planned for Saskatchewan this fall. Visitors to these sessions reviewed the proposed process, posed questions about the process, and made suggestions about how this process might be improved.
