With the help of many members of the Ripley Royal Canadian Legion and some very generous local contractors, the Ladies Auxiliary of Branch 440 recently opened their doors to show off their new community kitchen.

Ann Finlayson, member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Branch 440 of the Ripley Royal Canadian Legion, thanked everyone involved, “Without the help of the NWMO and the Township of Huron-Kinloss, and all our volunteers and contractors, we could not have completed this project.”

The kitchen overhaul was funded through the Nuclear Waste Management Organization’s (NWMO) Sponsorships and Donations program, the Township of Huron-Kinloss Community Well-Being Program, as well as funds from the Ripley Legion. New items included an industrial dishwasher – which is “a joy to use” according to branch members – as well as an exhaust fan, new faucets, new stove, stainless steel dishwasher trays, an exhaust cover, new sinks, taps, lights under the cupboards, and many other items.

NWMO Relationship Manager Paul Austin said the organization was pleased to support the Legion.

“As an organization, we are committed to supporting community well-being, and this project has been such a labour of love for the Legion. Congratulations to everyone involved!”

The Legion holds a wing night the second Saturday of every month, as well as meat draws the third Saturday of every month. The kitchen also gets lots of use catering for banquets, funerals and numerous events during the holiday season.
