In May 2015, we introduced a program to acknowledge Indigenous and Métis communities and organizations that were involved in early stages of engagement and learning. Their input helped us build a strong foundation for decision-making that respects the unique status of Indigenous peoples in Canada.
The communities and organizations we are recognizing with this program do not necessarily support the project. They were open to sharing their views, and helped identify questions and concerns that need to be part of the conversation as the plan moves forward. They are not required in any way to continue their engagement in the process.
