The community of South Bruce initiated its involvement in the site selection process by formally expressing interest in learning about the project in 2012.

This expression of interest triggered studies to explore the potential suitability of its geology while the community learned more about the project and reflected on its interest in it.

In 2020, we announced the Municipality of South Bruce is one of two continuing in the site selection process. This decision followed several years of progressively more detailed study and engagement.

The project will only move forward in any area with interested communities, along with First Nation, Métis and surrounding communities, working together to implement it.

As new information becomes available, we publish updates about what we’ve donewhat we’re doing, and future steps.

News and Activities

We have established Learn More offices to help facilitate learning in the areas involved in the site selection process.

South Bruce Community Liaison Committee (CLC)

Community liaison committees act as a resource for communities involved in the site selection process. Set up by municipal councils, independent of the NWMO and comprised of residents from the area, these working groups help community members learn more about Canada’s plan for managing used nuclear fuel, and reflect on interest in hosting the project in the area. You can visit the committee’s website to learn more.
