The NWMO Briefs CNSC in Ottawa

On Thursday, November 9, the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) briefed the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) in Ottawa about the implementation of Canada’s plan for the safe, long-term management of used nuclear fuel.

The CNSC is Canada’s nuclear regulator and will oversee licensing of the used fuel repository during each phase of its life cycle – from site preparation, to construction, operation, decommissioning (closure and post-closure), and release from CNSC licensing.

Our presentation at Thursday’s meeting focused on updating our program history with the regulator, ensuring that the Commission understands the basis for our site selection and technical programs.
