Congrats to the grade 7 and 8 boys and girls volleyball teams who recently showed off their new jerseys at a November tournament held in Marathon, Ontario. The boy’s team won and the girl’s came in third overall.

The NWMO is very happy to help out with school spirit by providing funding that resulted in the purchase of the new jerseys and an electronic score board.

Every year, student council works with teachers and parents to raise money through fundraisers like lunch specials, sock hops and other fund raising activities. Karly Bakker is one of the teachers involved, “These activities help our school to purchase awards, smaller equipment for the gym and outdoor sports and also allows us to give back to our community. Like our donations to the Cancer Assistance Group and the local food bank. Unfortunately, we do not make enough revenue to provide to our school on a larger scale.”

Teacher Lise Foucault-Clark adds, “Because of the generous financial support from the NWMO, we were able to make this a reality. We purchased a ‘high tech’ scoreboard as well as a complete set of jerseys for all our school teams. The new scoreboard creates an electrifying environment in our school gym when we host basketball and volleyball tournaments! Just after that loud horn goes off, it gets the whole school rallying! The new royal blue jerseys were proudly worn by our girls’ and boys’ teams at the recent volleyball tournament in November. Our school logo, the stinger, created by two of our students, is clearly displayed on these jerseys. Go Stingers Go!"
