The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) has been recognized by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) with a Silver Leaf Award, which celebrates excellence in strategic communication across Canada.
This national award acknowledges the NWMO’s efforts in community relations supporting a community-led process to identify a site for a deep geological repository — a critical component of Canada’s plan for the safe, long-term management of used nuclear fuel. The award also recognizes the collaborative communications team effort leading up to the NWMO’s historic site selection milestone in late 2024.
The IABC Canada Silver Leaf Awards are among the country’s most respected honours in strategic communication. Each year, the program celebrates exceptional achievements across disciplines such as communication management, research, training and skills.
The NWMO’s award-winning submission showcased a diverse range of initiatives designed to engage Indigenous Peoples and Canadians, including videos, brochures, newsletters, advertising campaigns and community research. These efforts were instrumental in advancing organizational objectives and building meaningful relationships throughout the site selection process.
This achievement reflects the NWMO’s commitment to transparency, collaboration and excellence in communication, reinforcing our role as a trusted leader in implementing Canada’s plan.
The 2025 Silver Leaf Award recipients were announced on Oct. 29 during the IABC Canada Conference in Ottawa, Ont.
