The NWMO welcomes Jessica Perritt as our new Vice-President of Indigenous and Municipal Relations and Transportation.

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) has appointed Jessica Perritt as Vice-President of Indigenous and Municipal Relations and Transportation. Perritt joins the NWMO’s executive team as the organization continues to advance our mandate for the safe, long-term management of Canada’s intermediate- and high-level radioactive waste.

Perritt was previously Director of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation at the NWMO. As a proud Anishinaabe-kwe and member of Neyaashiinigmiing First Nation, Perritt will bring her depth and breadth of experience in community engagement, Indigenous policy development and the integration of Indigenous Knowledge into western contexts to the NWMO’s leadership team.

“In taking on this role, I have had the chance to reflect on leadership and what it means amongst many sectors and perspectives. The work we do at the NWMO is complex, and we must balance perspectives and priorities across different departments, communities, industry and governments. Achieving that balance is vital to our success,” said Perritt. “In this new role, I look forward to amplifying Indigenous innovation and working to bridge perspectives around the opportunities this project will bring to Indigenous Peoples and Canadians.”

The NWMO is currently engaged in the federal regulatory process to deliver a deep geological repository for used nuclear fuel. With the appointment of Perritt, we can build on our existing engagement with Indigenous Peoples and Canadians and advance our commitments to Reconciliation.
